Overview
As part of the EA Games UX team, I contributed to the design of The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth, a real-time strategy game inspired by the epic fantasy films. My responsibilities included designing UI flows, player onboarding screens, and in-game control interfaces that balanced visual immersion with usability.
Process
Collaborating closely with designers, producers, and engineers, I designed wireframes and prototypes for gameplay menus, multiplayer flows, and tutorial systems. Usability testing informed iterative refinements, ensuring players could easily learn game mechanics while remaining immersed in the Tolkien universe. I worked alongside visual artists to incorporate iconic lore elements, textures, and typography.
Impact
The design work contributed to the game’s critical and commercial success, praised for its cinematic feel and intuitive gameplay. I was part of a small team focused on reducing friction for both new and advanced players, enhancing accessibility to complex real-time strategy mechanics within the iconic Lord of the Rings world.
